I didn't know where to post this problem. I am trying to convert my Smartype for DOS from my old computer (Pentium 1 with Windows 95) to Instant Text. I was able to convert/import 2 files to glossaries on floppies to move to my new XP computer (work computer), but haven't been able to convert my Smartype Blocks file. I talked with IT & need to figure out a way to either zip the file to a floppy or e-mail it. So far I can't do this. I had cleared a lot of things off of the Windows 95 computer, as I mainly use it for work (DOS). I was surprised I was able to hook up to the Internet still on that computer, but I can use dial up on it as I had left the files in place. I had an old trial version on Winzip on the Windows 95 computer but uninstalled it as it is of no use now. The Winzip download now available is not for Windows 95. I tried to download Powerzip but keep getting messages to download other updated files, as my required files are too old. I tried to download Freebyte zip which was easy to download, but is more complicated. All I need is to zip a file off of my computer onto a floppy to either mail to IT or e-mail it. I had tried to copy the file as is, but since it took 3 floppies & split the file, it won't work. I also don't think I can "write" on a CD Rom on this computer, so I can't copy the file onto a CD in full.
I am not computer savy, so things can get complicated very easily. I have a zip drive on my Windows 98 computer, but that is of no help right now.
Thanks for any suggestions of a simple zip file download.

I saw that Harrie gave you some ideas on her Productivity Talk for MTs forum. Did they work?
I'd love it if you'd post here with links to any programs you found helpful.

Hi Joi - I think Harrie's suggestions worked. I posted on this forum, Harrie's, & sent an e-mail to my brother who lives far away but is a computer programmer. I managed to download Winzip for my Windows 95 computer, thanks to Harrie's husband, & hopefully I did zip the file to a floppy, then sent the floppy by e-mail to IT. The file was a subfolder, which made it more difficult to copy & send. Marianne at IT is going to try to convert the Smartype Blocks file for me, as the IT Importer would not convert that one - it did convert 2 others. I am really excited about the possibility of having all of my Smartype expansions & words on IT. It sure gets confusing using 3 computers (Windows 95, 98, & XP), all with different programs installed, 2 typing programs (one DOS & DocQScribe), 2 expanders (actually I also have PRD on the DocQScribe expander - am too spoiled with lookup windows from Smartype & now IT to learn PRD), & 4 hospital accounts to transcribe. My primary account will be moving to DocQScribe shortly, which is why I really needed to see what I could get converted. I am anxious to hear whether Marianne was able to get the file from my e-mail & will be able to convert it. I used the following to download Winzip for Windows 95: www.bestweb.net/assistance/win95/winzip/It was a very simple download (even for me), & I didn't have to download any other necessary files as I was having to do with Powerzip. I am so glad to get back to high-speed as the old computer had only dial-up. I am just thankful the old computer still had the internet files & actually worked. I hadn't used that computer for the internet in a couple of years or so, as it had gotten rather full with work files & didn't have much room for personal things. My brother also gave a tip about possibly using File Transfer Protocol between myself & IT, but I haven't pursued that yet since I managed to download Winzip. Boy, this has been a learning experience. I also had to do some reinstalling & repairing of this non-work computer this weekend, as the programs were conflicting (I use Earthlink & DH uses AOL) - it was a mess. I managed to get that straightened out, after several hours of trial & error, so this has been a productive few days, particularly if I can get that third Smartype file transferred. Thanks for providing this forum for problems like this. I will post an update after I hear back from IT.

So far so good, Joi. Marianne at IT send me back the Smartype Blocks zip file which she had converted. I haven't had time to play around with it any & asked for instructions so I don't mess it up. I am very excited about this. ;D
