I am afraid this might be a really stupid question, but so far, I have only copied onto floppies. Do I use the same type of CD my kids use for music, or do i need to get RW or ?? Sorry, I am sort of computer illiterate. (also, is one of these buttons above the box for spell-check?) thanks!

Hi, I am by no means a puter guru (SP?) either, but I have found out that if you want to copy over something on a cd you will need the ones that say RW on them. If you use the regular cd then you only have one save per entry, so you could end up with 1 CD with 14 entries on it that are all of the same thing just each one with the new additions. I hope I am clear with this. If someone can explain it better-PLEASE step in and do so As for the spellcheck - I have no idea, but I hope so and that someone will let us know GrannyT

This isn't a fully computer literate response but maybe it will prompt a more complete response from someone else. In my understanding you do need a CD-R or a CD-RW and a special recordable/rewritable CD drive that will enable writing to the CD. Such a drive should come with the necessary software program and help information to let you get started. GrannyT is right about the CD-R vs. CD-RW limitations, you can only wRite to the CD-R you can't erase or write over anything already on the CD like you can with a CD-RW (ReWritable). I can't remember if the drives themselves can be either CD-R or CD-RW (or are always both). You may need to check closely that you are really getting what you want when you buy it, or when buying CDs to use in it..it's been awhile since I looked. I held my little mousey pointer over all the little buttons up there and could not find a spellchecker..but there were a lot of other neat thingys that I know nothing about! (maybe Joi can find us a spellchecker button..or maybe she thinks we don't need one! ;D Hah!)

Well I don't know if my CD-Rs got mislabeled or if I'm missing something else that should be obvious, but after my post I realized I'm a little behind in my backups so I got out my little CD-R with a previous session on it and got to work.
As usual, I didn't like the way I had originally designed the backup filing system so I redid it and recopied a bunch of stuff I had already saved to the disk (I waste a lot of time doing that!) figuring I'd just have to ignore the old stuff. As an experiment I tried deleting the old stuff just to see what sort of error I'd get - but surprise! no error. It deleted the old stuff. Now if I had really been on the ball I would have noted the file size before and after deleting, but I didn't, so I don't know if the deleted files are just quietly taking up space or if they are truely gone - but the stuff the CD 'says' is on it is in a much tidier format and the other stuff, if it is there, I don't have to see.
So my point is - I guess you can erase a CD-R disc?! If so they are cheaper than the CD-RW ones... Still don't know if you can write over it..
