home.earthlink.net/~agjon/Jon developed the ABCZ system of naming single-word abbreviations: The key to this system is that one combines the first 3 letters of the word with the last letter of the word. Example: Depacot e = depeThe ABCZ System isn't only for naming single words, though; other rules allow one to quickly name two-word phrases, longer phrases, and prefixes. Since all the abbreviations follow the same naming conventions, the abbreviation names are very easy to come up with and remember. Jon's site contains a vast array of resources relating to text expanders: Extensive discussions of expanders and abbreviation systems, useful for brand-new expander users and experienced users too; links to the most popular expander programs; and links to many other sites which discuss productivity. You can buy premade word lists here to use with Instant Text, Shorthand, or SpeedType: drug lists; orthopedic words and phrases; a list of 19,500 medical words and phrases; date and number lists; and lists for various medical specialties. Why reinvent the wheel? These abbreviation lists have been extensively field-tested by MTs who prove that they work.
