Since I'm lucky enough not to have nasal allergies or be intolerant to perfumes, I like the occasional spot of aromatherapy. [I imagine my fellow skeptics would point out the lack of double-blind controlled studies proving that sniffing essential oils can make me feel better or work more efficiently, but I don't need to take it that seriously; sometimes a pleasant scent is just that . . . pleasant. ~~Yup, found it, the standard skeptic debunking of aromatherapy.] But the Febreze Scentstories system [warning: music on that site -- take off your headphones!] is just plain weird: a machine that plays scented discs like music, producing a different aroma every 30 minutes? The problem I see with this analogy is that unlike music, scents linger; so I would imagine at the end of the 2-1/2 hours one would be left with a room full of different, perhaps conflicting odors. Since I view this product as a bit of expensive nonsense ($34.99 for the player, $5.99 for each disc), it was fun imagining what scents were left off each themed disc: what if "exploring the mountain trail" included an encounter with the ubiquitous leavings of horses and dogs who wandered the trail ahead of me?
