**Modified to indicate that the following discussion relates to using the built-in spellchecker in The Platform, which is loosely based on Word but doesn't have all the cool features Word does. [Thanks, Rennie, for showing me that clarification was needed ]**
GrannyT asked me this in an email and sent me off exploring. The answer is Yes. Simply highlight the word or phrase you want to spell check, then either click the spellcheck button on the toolbar [has a checkmark and ABC on it] or press F7. Only the highlighted words will be checked.
I don't see any way to access the spellcheck options other than to have a misspelled word in the document, so I purposefully misspelled a word. Make sure that the last option, to suggest split words, is not checked, otherwise you will have many spurious results as the spellchecker tries to see if you mistakenly put 2 words together.
The dictionaries option allows you to enter words to ignore (skip) or exclude (treat as misspelled). I tried to get it to exclude kreatinine, which sometimes appears under suggested words and which will not be picked up as misspelled if it appears in your document. [The Spellex people say this is an accepted spelling in another part of the English-speaking world; I believe they mentioned New Zealand but don't have the email to hand right now.] I was not able to get it to exclude kreatinine. If anyone else has success, please let us know how you did it. The only solution I know of is to put kreatinine --> creatinine in my expander for each account. The spellcheck offers as suggestions many words ending in 's which I feel are incorrect. These will not be identified as misspelled when you run spellcheck. If any of them are problematic, I suggest you enter them in your expander, telling it to replace them with the correct versions of the word.
