This is related BECAUSE I want to print these great suggestions and the *#&%)# family computer MY computer is linked to (in order to print) is down again. Family computer is 3.5 year-old Gate*** Windows Millenium (crappy) system that we added an XP upgrade to. Works periodically then freezes. Now is down again.... To all computer gurus, is it technically possible to use my De** restoration CD with full version of XP to reinstall Windows XP on the older computer? I am sooo tired of fooling with that computer! Will gladly take to a technician if this is possible. Thanks much

I would not personally advise this, unless you are really technically savvy. The newer system CD's have ID on them that are computer system specific and you could easily cause yourselves more headaches than you would solve. If you can afford it, have someone strip that family Win ME computer and load XP only. I have read in numerous places that trying to upgrade ME to XP IS NOT recommended. ME is truly a nightmare. Hubby has it on his old computer. He asked a computer-geek friend about upgrading and was told no way, not to even attempt it.
Is it possible to un-network the computers for the time being, or relocate the printer until the ME situation can be resolved? I know it sounds rather strange, but with all the computers in the house we aren't networked, and I like it that way (hubby and I don't use computers anywhere near the same way ). Perhaps in the future we will, and consolidate to a great printer, etc, until then, I like being a "solo" act.
Good luck.
