Announcement
I am no longer actively monitoring this board.
Instead, I am dedicating my creative energies to the refinement of a new idea . . .
productiveMT.org.
This site is currently under construction. I expect it to be fully functional by the end of January 2005.
There will be plenty of free content offering information on all my favorite productivity topics -- normals, expanders, efficient research methods, customizing Windows XP, plus some new topics -- using Microsoft Word and its macros, ActiveWord and other 3rd-party software, a new way to use Instant Text, template101 for managers, and more.
Expect plenty of new content as well:
In addition, medical documentation professionals (MDPs = MTs, MEs [medical editors, such as those editing the voice recognition system], MTSOs, and coders, plus students who hope to enter those professions) will soon be able to purchase
To make this all work smoothly, I'm planning a new format. Instead of being a bog-standard forum, made up of posts and responses, the new site will include a cyberjournal modeled after a peer-reviewed journal, with editors, assistant editors (mods), etc., and a well-defined article submission --> review --> publication process.
Until the productiveMT.org site is fully operational, you can continue to read the posts on this site. In addition, you might want to consult the temporary lph ~~ a cyberjournal forums. You will find information there on protecting your computer against company-wide email virus threats and hoaxes; there is also a scattering of posts on other topics.
The forums and productiveMT.org site were originally planned to launch on January 16, 2005 (today), so I expect there will be more interest after that date; unfortunately the best laid plans, etc. [I'll look up my Burns later and insert the correct quotation] . . . my beloved sister-in-law had a mild heart attack late last week, so I've had to postpone my site launch until I can finish consulting with her husband (my brother, the economist) about various issues involved with starting a new cyberbusiness. In addition, in this coming week I have an appointment to discuss my future plans with a well-known company; thus, I prefer not to officially launch the site until I know what the future might or might not bring!
What sorts of things am I planning?
There will be new boards for at-home professionals: working for nationals, time management for at-home, combining homeschooling and work without losing one's mind, exploring coding training and certification, Microsoft Office for at-home professionals, Microsoft Office certification, etc.
Off-topic boards may include scientific literacy/what the media does to science; book discussion; popular culture; medicinal cannabis, drug safety, and state's rights; and a thinking person's guide to finding health information online.
Clearly more than 1 person is needed to make this work. If you think any of the topics listed above would interest you, or you want a great idea and want a monthly column or board of your own, email me with a specific proposal at joi.Cardinal@gmail.com.
In addition to editors and forum mods, copyeditors are sought -- they will clean up the stray typos and capitalization errors that I make when I'm posting in a hurry, as well as verify that links work and test them regularly.
Thanks. It's been fun. The new project should be more fun.
Best wishes for a productive and peace-filled year,
Peace,
Joi

Expect plenty of new content as well:
- protecting your computer from viruses, parasites, spyware, adware, etc.
- information on running an at-home MDP business
- making the transition from MT to coder, or offering hybrid services
- candid opinions of national MT/coding services
- and information on the the company MTs lawsuit
In addition, medical documentation professionals (MDPs = MTs, MEs [medical editors, such as those editing the voice recognition system], MTSOs, and coders, plus students who hope to enter those professions) will soon be able to purchase
- print/ebook texts which will provide organized explanations of the above-mentioned productivity techniques (and many more as they are written)
- accompanying CD-ROMs packed with trial programs, databases, resource lists, expander glossaries, and normals
- and distance education courses focusing on productivity techniques.
